Of Coffee and TV Shows #2018BOTY

If you were having coffee with me, I would thank you for visiting and ask if you can feel the festive season brewing….. Everywhere you look festive colours are popping up, festive specials out and even TV has got festive feel good programming.

We are ending the year with a festive special; one post a day celebrating the Best Of The Year 2018 #BOTY2018. Do feel free to jump in, just use the hashtag in your tags so others can find you

If you were having coffee with me I would tell you its Day 2 of 25 and I should be write about a TV show that made my year great.

Top on my list would be TV Soapies such as Generations created and produced by Mfundi Vundla. Which has been running on SABC1 weekdays at 8pm without fail ever since it first aired in 1994 (except for the time it went on break because due to “creative differences” half the cast “left” and it was rebranded to Generations: The Legacy) Watching it over supper is like a family tradition no rhyme or reason…….

Generations The legacy Mfundi Vundla

Then there’s also Rhythm City, Skeem Saam and Scandal ETV  which are all weekday TV Soapies (from 6.30 – 8.00pm)

If you were having coffee with me I would ask you, if you are surprised I watch Soapies well I love how they tell everyday stories and you can even say I watch for research purposes; so I can develop the characters that I write and even maybe one day, who knows people will gather round over supper to watch something I will have helped shape

TV LAND

If you were having coffee with me I would tell you that maybe I like watching the animated show Teen Titans Go and might even have done questionable things to watch it.

If you were having coffee with me I would tell you that the festive season is upon us but at this rate looks like wont be much of any festivities going on with the whole fuel situation and the looming price hikes and our crazy multi-tier pricing system  but hey as long as I have TV, The internet and my blog its on

what your festive line up looking like?

Cheers

25 Days Of Christmas: African Cinematics #2018BOTY

Hello December Hello

The festive season is here can you feel it? My friends and I are doing 25 Days of Christmas to celebrate the Best Of The Year #2018BOTY

Day 1 should be easy right, what movie highlighted my year? Well the answer will surprise you…..

I havent seen them yet.

First on my list is State Of Malambia

State of Malambia

State of Malambia is a local Zimbabwean production and at $105 000 its easily one of the biggest budget films this side of the Sahara desert has seen. I am sure pretty much everyone has heard of Wakanda, the fictitious state in Africa from which the Black Panther comes.

When I watched Black Panther I had this feeling at the back of my head, that why must we wait for Big Budget Movie Companies to create movies about Africa and get actors who have never set foot here to tell our stories and mangle our accents while they were at it.  I am sure we have a long way to go to reach cinematic excellence but I am all for anyone who is willing to put themselves out there and say “this, this is my part in reclaiming our narrative.”

“Boundaries also enslave and that is a State Of Malambia”

I missed out on a special screening on Wednesday (28 November) when one could have met up with the media cast and crew but State of Malambia is out and its coming  to a screen near you

On a curious aside, a friend and fellow blogger is in the cast, how about that… I never knew they were in it until fairly recently when I spotted them in promo footage and I was never ready, I will wait for E to read this and come at me in the comments then you will know who it is too if you didnt ha!

Next is Chebet

Chebet

Chebet is a short animation project by the Samaritan Multimedia team of Uganda (again I dont mean to brag but I know someone who worked on the script, see my people do the most, I am doing a happy dance as I type this.)

Chebet was not only nominated but won the award for best animation in the 2018 Uganda Film Festival.

I havent seen Chebet yet but I am keeping my eyes open and you should look out for it too……

But of course it would be cheating if I didnt mention a 2018 movie that I actually watched, no prizes for guessing….. Black Panther and you can read my thoughts HERE

Of The February Blog Challenge

Hello February

February script

I rather like February, there’s something about it…. No it’s not about how the month is themed red, punctuated with hearts and strewn with flowers.

hEARTS AND ROSES

It’s not about how it’s been styled as the month of love, fodder for the creative mind, the poet who feeds equally on the broken hearted and the love struck; promises kept and promises broken.

Blind folded heart

It’s not because January is finally over. January seems to have way more days than any other month, it’s the Monday of months. Goodbye January, I won’t miss you.

I love February because I am a February baby, it’s written in the stars, poets are born in February. This when my New Year begins.

This year I decided to celebrate my month in style a little gift to my blog from me to me from my blog; feel free to reread that again from the top. You are welcome.

The FEBlog Challenge

This month I will be doing a blog every day challenge, start the year with a bang; hit the ground running; this is it, this is my year…..

I have a bunch of friends who will also be participating in the said challenge, if you ever tried a writing challenge, you will find that it is easier to do when, you know someone else out there is doing it with you…. If you feel moved to try it here are the suggested topics:

Feblog

The topics are all optional and not arranged in any order, if you could see a title that grabs your fancy, go ahead and join in… and guess what if there is ever a month that’s the easiest to complete a blog challenge that would be February; it has the least number of days… You are welcome

I do hope you will be part of this journey with me, and hopefully you learn a thing or two about me, my life and my world.
